Your Season is

SUMMER

Summer is a time of embodiment, fullness, celebration, 'peak growth' and the sharing of wisdom and experience.

Right now life might feel very full. You're reaping the fruits of your past labor and seeing the culmination of your growth from fallow periods.

The shadow side, is that it can also quickly become a time of overwhelm and burnout, if we 'fly to close to the sun' by overcommitting, overextending and overgiving.

Keywords for Summer

Embodiment - Fullness - Celebration - Peak Growth

Right now, you might be feeling things like:

  • Expansive, aligned and full

  • Enjoying the gifts of transformation, the seeds planted in winter, and protected in spring are all coming into bloom

  • Desire to connect with others and share gifts

  • Bringing to life new visions for yourself, your family or your community

  • Embodied and ‘settled in’ in your life, roles or interests

  • If overcommitted; busy, under pressure and stressed as though you are ‘flying to close to the sun’

  • Harvesting all of your hard work, effort and energy

  • Feeling aligned, full, expansive and celebrating your wins

  • Outside recognition and celebration - this is the phase of the cycle that is culturally celebrated

  • Connection and sharing with others

The gold
of Summer

  • Overcommitting, over extending and over giving

  • Burnout, stress and resentment

  • Not taking time to celebrate and recognise yourself and your efforts, racing to the ‘next thing’

The challenge
of Summer

Summer cycle companions

  • Butterfly pushing itself through the cocoon, it's wings strengthened by resistance

  • Ovulation

"Matrescence is not linear, it is seasonal and cyclical.”

The Seasons of Matrescence is a model for navigating the changing seasons of becoming and being a mother.

What is Matrescence?

Matrescence is the ongoing process of growth and transformation a woman traverses in her journey to and through motherhood. Like adolescence, it’s a time of rapid change physically and emotionally. Matrescence impacts our identity, relationships, career, friendships, economics, spirituality and more.

The word was first coined in the 1970s by Anthropologist Dr Dana Raphael, with recent research in various fields from neuroscience and psychology to economics and sociology, leading a revival of the term and increasing awareness of the importance of acknowledging and supporting this time in a woman's life. “The psyches and souls of women also have their own cycles and seasons of doing and solitude, running and staying, being involved and being removed, questing and resting, creating and incubating, being of the world and returning to the soul-place.”

- Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Meet your guide

I’m Nikki, a mother, matrescence and women's life cycle guide, podcast host and founder of the Seasons of Matrescence model.

As a matrescence guide, I help mothers navigate the often unexpected changes and challenges of becoming and being a mother, whilst simultaneously supporting you to explore the opportunities mothering can provide for your own personal growth and expansion.

I created the Seasons of Matrescence ® to provide a map for mothers to use when navigating times of change and transition and support mothers to explore their matrescence journey within the context of their broader life cycle and rites of passage.

I spend my time training other aspiring matrescence guides in the Seasons of Matrescence Certification, hosting honest and inspiring conversations on the Seasons of Matrescence podcast and writing about matrescence, cyclicality and rites of passage.
